  1. substantialsubstantially在表示“大量的”和“大体上地”时,都属于公文英语,用在比较正式的场合;
  2. substantial同substantive都可表示“本质的,实质的”,但两者有一定的区别:前者一般用在real,important,sizable,solid,well-to-do,virtual等词上。后者主要用在一些特种情况上:在议会程序中,substantive motion(实质性的动议)是指用适当的方式清楚地处理某个议题。在法律上,主要用以区分substantive law(被执行的法律)和adjective law(执法的程序)。在服务行业上,用来去区分员工是全职工还是连是工。
