The tidal bore of the Qiantang River in the Gulf of Hangzhou of East China is the most spectacular in the world. The sprays of the surging tidal bore reach as high as 8.93 metres with a current velocity of 24 kilometres per hour. Its roar can be heard within a circumference of 22 kilometres. This accounts for a Chinese description that“the roar of the tidal bore sounds like ten thousand armies.” 中国东部杭州湾的钱塘江江潮是世界上最壮观的江潮，怒潮翻滚时浪花最高达8.93米，速度约为每小时24公里，方圆22公里内可听到波涛汹涌前进的声音，有“十万军声一夜潮”之说。
